Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 16, 2026
This policy explains how OmniChar Org (“we”, “us”) handles information in connection with OmniChar, our open-source studio for AI characters. We have written it to match how the product actually works, and we have kept it plain and honest.
Who we are
OmniChar is a product of OmniChar Org, a company registered in India. OmniChar is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license.
- Entity: OmniChar Org
- Registered address: 136A, Tower B3, Spaze ITech Park, Sector 49, Gurugram, Haryana, India 122018
- Contact: imprsnst@omnichar.org
Scope
This policy covers two things: the omnichar.org website, and the OmniChar app. The two are different in an important way. The website is a normal marketing site we host. The app runs locally on your own machine and is designed to keep your work local.
OmniChar is local-first
OmniChar is a local app that runs on your own machine. Your projects, media, models, and API keys stay on your device. We do not receive them, and we do not store them on our servers.
- Your fal.ai API key is stored locally on your machine and is sent only to fal.ai when you generate. It is not sent to us.
- Your media and models stay on your own machine. Inline Core generates locally on your GPU, so we never receive them.
- The app is open source, so anyone can inspect exactly what it does. The code is on GitHub.
Third-party services
OmniChar can reach services that other companies run. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. Where you pay a provider directly, such as fal.ai, that account and billing relationship is between you and them.
Through the app:
- fal.ai, for hosted model generation through API Nodes when you choose to use it. See fal.ai’s privacy policy.
Through the website:
- Google, which provides our analytics. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Vercel, our hosting and content delivery provider. See Vercel’s privacy policy.
- GitHub, which hosts our source code and releases you can download. See GitHub’s privacy policy.
- Discord, which hosts our community. See Discord’s privacy policy.
Information the website collects
On the public website we keep collection to a minimum. We do not run sign-up forms, and we do not ask for your name or email to use the app.
- Analytics: in production we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic, such as page views, general device and browser type, and approximate location. Google Analytics 4 uses your IP address to estimate location and does not store it.
- Server logs: our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, which can include IP address, browser user agent, and timestamps. These are used to run and secure the site.
- The getting-started page loads a video preview image from YouTube. When that page loads, your browser contacts Google to fetch the image.
Cookies
For normal visitors, the only cookies set are Google Analytics cookies, used for the aggregate analytics described above. We do not use advertising cookies. If you sign in to our admin area, which is for our staff only, a session cookie is used to keep you signed in; that does not apply to normal visitors. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
How we use information
We use the limited website data above to operate and secure the site and to understand, in aggregate, how it is used so we can improve it. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Your rights
If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you rights over your personal data. Depending on the situation these include the right to access your data, to have it corrected, completed, or updated, to have it erased, and to raise a grievance. Because OmniChar is local-first, most of your data already stays under your control on your own machine.
To exercise any of these rights, or to raise a grievance, email us at imprsnst@omnichar.org. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Data retention
We hold little to no personal data ourselves. Analytics data is retained by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics configuration. Hosting request logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider. Data that lives inside the app stays on your device for as long as you keep it, and you can delete it at any time.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we handle. The local-first design of the app reduces exposure, because your projects and keys are not sent to us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The website and the app are not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will address it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will make a reasonable effort to highlight them.
Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes relating to it are subject to the courts at Gurugram, Haryana.
